For example, two researchers, Ackoff and Emshoff, conducted experiments by presenting ads with the different level of intensity and different media in a few places in America about forty years ago. In 1982, Aaker and Carman were making experiments by using Cable Split Test method.

By this way, they set the level of advertising that were exposed on cable TV. They were also gathered historical data acquisition (data panel), the target sample to see the changes in their purchasing patterns after seeing the ad. Then they tried to measure the influence of ad by comparing the amount of purchasing from the samples that have been getting different kinds of ads.

In another experiment, Lodish found that for the products that have been establish, only 33% that shows the increase in sales through advertising. For the new products, about 55%, that increased in sales. From several researches, including research that is mentioned above, the influence of advertising for increasing the sales does not seem like what is expected.

In other words, the sales will not increase by simply increasing the number of ad presentation. But the influence of advertising can be improved by changing its content, media, and target of the consumer. In the case of successful advertising, its influence will usually appear after a certain period, and its influence will be reduced gradually as time passing by. From several research have also found that advertising is quite effective for new products rather than products that longer existed in the market. Sales will not be much influenced even though the company suddenly stopped its advertising.

Last is, the influence of price to sales is much greater than the influence of advertising. A research shows that averagely the influence of price is 20 times greater than the effect of ad.
